MARPOL Annex I mandates the installation of oily water separators (OWS) for bilge water. Failures to maintain and operate OWS correctly may cause unvoluntary oil spills. This may lead to severe fines for the operating company, detention of the vessel and even imprisonment of the responsible ship’s officers and captains.  

Be prepared for Port State Control 

Regular health checks and maintenance performed by the original equipment supplier as well as the use of genuine spare parts helps your company staying compliant with international regulations.  

MEPC.107(49) requires the accuracy of the 15 ppm Bilge Alarms to be checked at each IOPP Certificate renewal survey. Only personnel trained and authorized by the equipment manufacturer is entitled to perform this work.
