Membrane sewage treatment

Membrane Bio-Reactor (MBR) based sewage treatment systems

in accordance with the new MEPC.159(55)

With the new IMO Resolution MEPC.159(55) applicable for installations starting from January 1st 2010, new and more stringent limit values came into force for effluent water from marine sewage treatment plants.

SMT

RWO's family of wastewater treatment systems has therefore been complemented by the membrane sewage treatment series SMT, which is generally based on RWO's proven MEMROD® technology and fulfils the new MEPC.159(55).

MEMROD®

As a further MBR-technology, RWO also offers the MEMROD® process (MEMbrane Reactor Operation Device). The MEMROD®process is comparable to the SMT process but is foreseen for larger capacities and therefore being a custom-made system.

Since its development numerous MEMROD® plants have been installed on board of research-, navy-, cruise-vessels and mega yachts.

Advantages of the SMT and MEMROD® technologies
  • Solutions for treatment of all wastewater streams onboard of ships
  • Fulfilling all official discharge requirements (even Alaska requirements)
  • Environmental friendly and future oriented technologies (security against increasing of discharge requirements in the future)
  • Bioreactors with high biomass concentration
  • Submerged membrane filtration guaranteeing a pure effluent without any suspended solids and without the requirement of disinfection
  • Permittingboth black and grey wastewater as well as galley wastewater to be treated in a single reactor system
  • Effluent levels being better than the requirements of the International Maritime Organisation (MARPOL, Annex IV) and both the future standards MEPC.159(55) and the USCG/Alaska-Rules.

Meeting future standards - The right system for cruise vessels, navy ships and mega yachts.
